Director's Note
Ben Hamilton
I fell in love with Sitka all the way back in 2008 on my first trip here. I was blown away that there was a place that had both the raw power and wildlife of the open ocean as well as ancient forests and rugged mountains all within a few miles of each other. As a wildlife filmmaker, Sitka became a second home to me, and over the years I have made over 30 trips to the town for various film productions. This film was born out of the desire to share some of the most unique and special wildlife experiences I've heard about and experienced over those years, many of which even locals have never witnessed.
For me, Sitka's Hidden Wonders is about reminding visitors that everywhere you look here there is incredible life to discover and that's largely because this place is still so natural. In this film, we go big with some of the best natural history events, but also go tiny, diving into the microscopic worlds that sustain all life on earth. My hope is that audiences enjoy the ride of this film as much as I enjoyed making it, and that they leave the theatre with a new appreciation for life on our planet and soak in every moment in this incredible town.
